Six new scenes and a special feature film clip from the film ‘Shirley,’ which opens in theaters nationwide on Friday, July 5, have been released.
Shirley Jackson, who made her debut with ‘The Road Beyond the Wall,’ a semi-autobiographical novel about her childhood in Burlingame, California in the 1920s, became a sensation with her short story “The Lottery,” published in The New Yorker magazine in 1948, and established her reputation. Her novel “The House on the Hill,” an ultra-authentic horror novella published in 1959, is considered a classic ghost story and influenced novelist Stephen King.
The film ‘Shirley’ is a psychological suspense film based on the biography of Shirley Jackson. The film depicts Shirley’s long slump and the strange bond she forms with her young wife Rose while living with a young couple. The film is based not only on her novels, but also on hundreds of letters she wrote to her husband, Stanley Edgar Hyman, who was also a literary critic.
The film was directed by Josephine Decker, known for her work on ‘The Sky is Everywhere,’ a co-production between A24 and Apple TV+. The executive producer was Martin Scorsese, who fell in love with Charlii’s feature film “Butter on the Latch”. Charlii is played by Elisabeth Moss, who appeared in “The Invisible Man. The talented cast also includes Michael Stuhlbarg, Odessa Young, and Logan Lerman.
The six newly released scene photos show Elisabeth Moss in an impressive performance as Charley, who is in a slump and depressed. The second special video from the film, which is the second one to be released, shows Charlii deliberately putting Rose in a bad mood and enjoying watching her do so. At dinner, she asks, “Can I ask you about your prenuptial agreement?” The scene seems to link the world of Charlii’s novel and reality, which is full of discomfort, touching on sensitive topics such as “Can you tell me about your prenuptial agreement?
