CHO CO PA CO CHO CO QUIN QUIN’s latest single, “Correspondances,” will be released for distribution on Wednesday, May 1.
A three-member comic band from Tokyo, formed and disbanded in elementary school, and reunited in 2021 after one member, who was devoted to Latin American music, studied abroad at the University of Havana, Cuba, and learned “cho co pa co cho co quin quin”, a type of rhythm pattern. In 2023, CHO CO PA released their first album “tradition,” which combines ethnic music and electronic sounds, and the song “Watatsumi” was used in the JR East “TOHOKU Relax” commercial song.
“Correspondances” contains three songs, including “Adan’s Seashore,” which was inspired by the members’ visit to Amami Oshima Island in 2023. The title is based on the motif/title of “Adan’s Seashore,” a masterpiece by Tanaka Isson, a painter who broke new ground in Japanese painting by depicting subtropical birds and nature in the Amami region. The production of the song was featured in “Document 20min. Night Light Ride” broadcast on NHK General on Monday, March 4, and CHO CO PA appeared on TV for the first time.
On April 26 (Fri.), the music video “Nippon Zenkoku Sake Drinker Ondo – Shuon Lyrics Ver-” will be released from “Shune Lyrics,” a project to visualize the “lyrical scenes” of famous songs in which CHO CO PA has participated through sound and images by “collecting sounds”. The music video is composed of about 30 environmental and daily life sounds, including the sound of a beer bottle cap falling off and the sound of wind chimes, to match the lyrics of the song.
