Andrei Tarkovsky’s ‘Nostalgia’ in 4K Restoration to Hit Theaters Nationwide, Starting January 26, 2024, at Bunkamura Le Cinema Shibuya Miyashita and More.

In his brief 54-year lifespan, Tarkovsky crafted eight impactful films, leaving an enduring mark on filmmakers and artists alike. His sixth feature, the initial one produced in Italy post escaping stringent censorship in his homeland, unfolds the narrative of Andrei Gorchakov—a poet journeying from Moscow to Italy—and his interpreter, Eugenia. Their odyssey, retracing the steps of Russian musician Pavel Sasnovsky, takes a compelling turn upon encountering Domenico. Revered by some as a doomsday fanatic, Domenico entrusts Andrei with the monumental task of “saving the world.”
On the 40th anniversary of its initial release in Japan, the 4K restored version, overseen by the film’s cinematographer Giuseppe Lanci and with the collaboration of Cineteca Nazionale di Roma, will hit theaters. Premiering at the “Bologna Restoration Film Festival 2022,” this version boasts a new poster visual capturing Eugenia’s silhouette, aligning with the film’s upcoming release decision.
