Shohei Ochiai’s solo exhibition “THIS IS OCHIAI SHOHEI” will be held at YUKIKOMIZUTANI (TERRADA ART COMPLEXII 1F) in Higashi-Shinagawa, Tokyo from August 26 (Sat) to September 23 (Sat).
Shohei Ochiai is a painter who has expanded his activities in Japan and abroad, including providing works for the digital auction house “JOOPITER” organized by Pharrell Williams, and visuals for xiangyu, yonawo, and MONO NO AWARE. He has been showing paintings and drawings with motifs of items rooted in daily life, such as daily necessities and toys.
This exhibition, Ochiai’s largest solo show to date, presents a collection of works that cut out Ochiai’s life itself and accumulate the elements that make up who he is. In addition to exhibiting Ochiai’s largest paintings to date and new attempts at three-dimensional works, a documentary video of Ochiai’s work will be shown in the exhibition space. The main visual for the exhibition was designed by Shun Sasaki of AYOND.
【Comment from Shohei Ochiai】
Hello, everyone. My name is Shohei Ochiai, and I am a painter.
This is my largest solo exhibition to date. In holding this exhibition, I have reexamined myself and realized that my roots are in the “local city-like hodgepodge” of Omiya, Saitama, where I was born and raised.
This may be one of the reasons why I have chosen common, everyday objects as my motifs. Until now, my goal has been to maximize the appeal of man-made objects, but this time I turned my attention to natural objects and challenged myself to express the power that is created by the coexistence of both. We hope that everyone who comes to the exhibition will be able to feel that power.
We would like to once again express our gratitude to all those who cooperated in making this exhibition possible.
