In conjunction with the 120th anniversary of Yasujiro Ozu’s birth and the 60th anniversary of his death, the Chigasaki Art Museum in Kanagawa Prefecture will hold the exhibition “Yasujiro Ozu’s Aesthetic Eye – OZU ART -” from September 3 (Sunday) to November 9 (Thursday).
The exhibition will display film materials, props, and items from Ozu’s former collection, and will focus on Ozu’s aesthetic sensibility as seen through these items. The exhibition will also include a collection of Ozu’s handwritten paintings and other valuable materials to explore what Ozu was trying to convey through his film works.


During the exhibition period, lectures and other related events will be held, including a guest talk on Saturday, September 30 by Mori Hiroaki, the fifth-generation owner of the Chigasaki Kan, which Ozu used as his regular lodging for writing, and a screening of the 1951 film “Mugishu” on Saturday, November 4.
