What TESTSET Strives for Moving Forward

I just want to add something, but during the recent Zepp Shinjuku live, you performed the cover of “Glass” and followed it with “Yume No Ato.” That transition seemed intentional, right?

Nagai: Yes, the initial draft of the setlist was made by Sunahara, but it was definitely intentional. We performed “Glass” last year as well.

LEO: That track is one of Yukihiro’s darker, eerie songs, so Marin suggested it might fit musically with TESTSET. The transition into “Yume No Ato” was also intentional.

That sequence really hit emotionally.

Nagai: I’m glad to hear that. That’s exactly what we hoped for.

How do you envision TESTSET’s future activities?

LEO:

With this EP, we’ve shown a more pop and mellow side, so while keeping that in mind, I want the second album to be something that really hits the listener hard. For this EP, tracks like “Interface,” with that kind of attack and danceable vibe, are the kind of direction I want to focus on. But the most important thing is that it becomes a sound that’s unique to the four of us, something that could only be created by this lineup.

Nagai: I still feel like we’re only halfway there, so I can’t say that the next album will be the definitive answer for this band. But I do have a sense that we’re starting to see the color of TESTSET as a band, as a living entity, and I feel like the next album will also contain some essence that might surprise us or even contradict that.

Anyway, I definitely want to keep this band going. As long as everyone is writing songs and the band can keep moving forward, I want to do live shows and release albums… I know my thoughts are all over the place (laughs), but that’s how strongly I feel about this band, so I believe we can continue for a long time. And just like LEO said, with each new project, it will undoubtedly become something that only the four of us can create.
