Tatsuki Fujimoto’s acclaimed manga Look Back is heading to international screens once again. A live-action adaptation directed by Hirokazu Koreeda will be distributed across the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Ireland through a new agreement with North American distributor GKIDS. Screenings have already been confirmed for South Korea and Taiwan.
GKIDS, which will handle the overseas rollout, has built a strong track record bringing Japanese animation to Western audiences. The company also distributed the 2024 theatrical anime adaptation of Look Back in North America.
“Hirokazu Koreeda continues to define contemporary world cinema, while Tatsuki Fujimoto has emerged as one of the most influential manga creators of the past decade,” said Chance Huskey, Vice President of GKIDS, in a statement.
When I first met the team at GKIDS, what struck me most was their deep respect for the original Look Back and for Tatsuki Fujimoto. They were also genuinely drawn to the creators and staff involved in this project, including director Hirokazu Koreeda, and the more we talked, the more their passion for the film became clear.
I’m truly delighted that GKIDS will bring this film to audiences in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and Ireland. As we continue working toward completing the film, we’ll do our very best, and I hope everyone will look forward to it.
