The special exhibition “Ancient Mexico: Maya, Aztecs, and Teotihuacan” will be held at the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno, Tokyo, from June 16.
The exhibition focuses on the Mayan, Aztec, and Teotihuacan civilizations, three representative civilizations in Mexico, where ancient cities flourished and 35 World Heritage sites exist today.
The artifacts from the tomb of the “Red Queen” (“Reina Roja” in Spanish), the queen of King Pacal, who established the golden age of the representative Mayan city-state of Valenque, will be exhibited for the first time outside of Mexico and the United States.
In addition, 140 ancient Mexican artifacts selected from major museums in Mexico, including the National Museum of Anthropology, the Alberto Luz Ruillier Palenque Archaeological Museum, the Templo Mayor Museum, and the Teotihuacan Archaeological Zone, will be on display.
