Ungeziefer’s stage play “Unge Theatre Collection: Futaribotchi no Hoshi [“Ugoku Mono”, “Tabi no Shitaku”]” will be performed at PARA in Jimbocho, Tokyo, from April 18 (Thu.) to 21 (Sun.).
The performance will be presented simultaneously by Ungeziefer in a two-person show.Considered a collection of children’s stories for adults, the production will include his masterpiece “Ugoku Mono” which won the grand prize at the “2009 Hokkaido Drama Award,” and his new work, “Tabi no Shitaku”.The cast of “Ugoku Mono” includes Yamato Fujiie and Satomi Takazawa, and “Tabi no Shitaku” includes Tao Kurosawa and Haruka Toyoshima.

At the end of last year, I was talking with people around Ungeziefer about what we should do now… and how much money we have to spend to put on performances, etc. I happened to see a post on SNS saying that PARA was looking for artists to be affiliated with, and I contacted them on the spur of the moment. I contacted PARA on the spur of the moment.
As I was talking with the staff at PARA, I suggested that they let me do a theater performance because I simply liked the space, and they suggested that I should make it a part of PARA’s repertoire of works. In other words, we would present Unge’s plays on a regular basis with the cooperation of PARA. It was something I could never have wished for.
We have to keep doing theater performances. It seems that we have accumulated too many different things to be able to easily say that we are tired and we should stop.
Why do we do it? What lies ahead if we keep on doing it? If I had the time to muse about such things with pleasure, I would create a play.
I have chosen to keep on making plays.
That is why I am making plays anyway.

Hello, PARA is a theater in Jimbocho. PARA is a theater in Jimbocho, a somewhat rude space we call a “theater” using a room on the second and fourth floors of a building. People from various genres of art, theater, philosophy, and other art forms are beginning to gather here.
PARA’s copy “We are making” has two major meanings: “We are making art here” and “We are making a theater here”. Creating a theater is a difficult task. I hope that the art and people who gather here will not get caught up in the whirlpool of simple use and consumption, and that we can create moments when they happen to meet next to each other and greet each other with a wave of the hand, “See you next time. I am trying to find something in this place that can be called a “theater” by somehow piecing together a thin line.
Creating repertory works is one such thin line. Mr. Motohashi of Ungeziefe has agreed to create an important work, “Ugoku Mono” and a new work, “Tabi no Shitaku” as part of PARA’s repertory. I feel that I can see the possibility of “theater” in the two-person play that I saw in one of the small rooms of Unge Sou. From now on, many people’s memories and words will descend and intersect in this inorganic space. Please come and enjoy the third year of PARA.
