Izumi Kato’s Solo Show Unveiled at Perrotin Los Angeles
A solo exhibition by Izumi Kato is being held from February 28 (Wed) to March 23 (Sat) to celebrate the opening of the gallery Perrotin Los Angeles in Los Angeles, California, USA.
Izumi Kato is a painter/sculptor from Shimane Prefecture. Known for her human-shaped sculptures made of various materials, she has recently held solo exhibitions at the Watari-um Museum of Contemporary Art and the Hara Museum of Contemporary Art in Japan, as well as “Perrotin” in China and Korea. He also worked on the artwork for GEZAN’s album “Achichi”.
This is the first time Kato’s solo exhibition will be held on the West Coast of the United States. Focusing on Kato’s work in a wide variety of materials, including wood, stone, plastic, and cast aluminum, the exhibition will present a complete overview of his recent production activities in the form of paintings and sculptures, ranging in size from giant 14-foot (over 4 meters) sculptures to small plastic model kits, and allowing viewers to create their own miniatures of his works. A kit that allows visitors to create their own miniatures of the works will also be available for purchase.
The exhibition will be held in conjunction with the “Frieze Los Angeles 2024” art fair held in the Los Angeles area from February 29 (Thursday) to March 3 (Sunday).
