Cross Review,” which appears in every issue of ” Music Magazine,” has started to be published on the web starting with the September issue released on August 19 (Sat.). This is the first time that an article from “Music Magazine” has been published on the web.
The “Cross Review” section has been running since 1981, in which four reviewers score and critique seven notable albums on a 10-point scale, allowing readers to enjoy the differences in how the four reviewers listen to the albums.
In conjunction with the release of the webcast, comments by Nakamura Toyo, who served as the magazine’s editor-in-chief and chairman for many years, were also made public. The excerpts are from the preface to “Cross Review 1981-1989,” a Music Magazine supplement published in 2010, the year before Nakamura passed away.
Cross Review is like a backbone supporting the center of gravity of Music Magazine. The magazine’s mission is to capture the long stream of music by taking a wide range of records released each month, critiquing them as rigorously as possible, and sustaining that critique, and I think the Cross Review section has intensively symbolized that mission.
