Shiny: I wouldn’t say I’m particularly optimistic. I just write things as they are. What I value most is “sincerity.” I want to express my true feelings, without hiding, twisting, or exaggerating anything. For instance, if I’m feeling sad, I fully express that sadness, and if I feel like I’m really failing, I write that too. I enjoy using simple words to convey my true emotions. While the profile might label me as “optimistic,” that’s not the full picture. For me, it’s all about “sincerity” — that’s what matters most.
This collaboration, crossing borders, seems to be connected by “sincerity.” As a final thought, could each of you share a word about the upcoming performance?
Ishige: After four years, this long-awaited first collaboration has me very energized. We’ve invited some great friends from Japan—Su-xing-cyu for Tokyo and THE BAWDIES for Osaka—so I’m excited to see how PAPUN BAND and we will mix together. I think it’s going to be a big celebration, and I hope a lot of people will experience it. Since this is the first live of the telephones’ 20th anniversary year, I’m planning to perform some songs we haven’t played in a while, with new arrangements, so I’m really looking forward to it.
Shiny: I’m super excited to perform our collaboration song together live. We only have four shows planned for this tour, but I’d love to perform it in more places. We don’t know exactly how it’ll unfold, but I’m sure it’ll be a thrilling and fun experience.
As the tour title “GAME START” suggests, it would be great if this marks the beginning of a new era of exchange between Japanese and Taiwanese bands.
Ishige: Exactly. It’s not just a one-time thing; we want to make this a regular occurrence. I really feel that way.
Shiny, do you want to build connections with other Japanese bands besides the telephones in the future?
Shiny: No, no, telephones only! Always! Forever!
