The Fusion of Direction, Visual Technology, and Haptics

Hokusai’s Room

The final exhibit, “Hokusai’s Room,” is the highlight of the exhibition. The 46 paintings of “Fugaku Sanjurokkei (Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji)” were analyzed and combined with computer graphics to reproduce the scenery of “Kanagawa Okinamiura” as Hokusai would have seen it, or imagined it. The images are combined with computer graphics to create a high-definition image and interlocking three-dimensional sound. The combination of the “wind” control technology and the aforementioned Haptic Floor allows visitors to immerse themselves in Hokusai’s world of expression at the deepest level.

At the media presentation, Nakajima Kento also experienced the “Hokusai Room.

After exiting the “Hokusai Room,” visitors can take a closer look through a loupe at Hokusai’s meticulous depiction and the delicate skills of the printer using DTIP (three-dimensional image processing) technology to create a master replica of the work. (GOMA’s work will be on display from April 25).

In the master replica exhibited as an epilogue, visitors can taste every fiber of washi with their eyes.
