The 4K restored version of the film ‘Bagdad Cafe’ will be released nationwide on December 13, 2024.
The movie is a human drama depicting the interactions between people who gather at the ‘Bagdad Cafe in the Mojave Desert of the American West and Yasmin, a German traveler who arrives there. It was originally released in Japan in 1989 and became one of the key films that symbolized the mini-theater boom in Japan at the time.
The restoration was supervised by the late director Percy Adlon, who passed away in March 2024. In his lifetime, Adlon expressed that the film, which portrays warmth and acceptance of people of all skin colors, backgrounds, and beliefs, would serve as a source of healing in the modern era.
