Born in Vienna, Austria. He gained international attention with his debut feature film “Lovely Rita” (2001), which was selected for Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival, and was followed by the horror film “Hotel” (2004). His follow-up horror film “Hotel” (2004) was also selected for the same section. “At the Fountain of Lourdes” (2009) won five awards at the 66th Venice International Film Festival, including the FIPRESCI Prize. In 2016, he also served on the Un Certain Regard Jury.
