#Tomeka Reid

A cellist and composer who has received numerous awards, including the “MacArthur Foundation Fellowship,” a grant program known as the “Genius Award.” Raised in suburban Washington, D.C., he began his musical career in 2000 when he moved to Chicago, where he was commissioned by the AACM to create a work for a large ensemble called the Great Black Music Ensemble in 2009 and made his debut recording as a bandleader in 2015 with the Tomeka Reid In 2015, he made his debut recording with the Tomeka Reid Quartet as bandleader. He is currently teaching a composition course at Mills College, and in April 2024 will release a new album, 3+3, as the Tomeka Reid Quartet, and will lead the quartet on its first visit to Japan in June.
